First Cultural Heritage NVQs Achieved at the Alnwick Garden
On 2nd November 2006, four youngsters became the first people to complete the NVQ Level 2 in Heritage Care and Visitor Services in Northumberland, thanks to Northumberland Training Agency (NTA), a partner in The Tourism Academy.Lee Megson, Kerry Southall, Graham Barrass and Ami Plastow were recruited in to The Alnwick Garden through a Routeway project. After a series of preparatory courses, all four students gained temporary employment within The Alnwick Garden over the busy summer season.
NTA signed all four candidates up for the NVQ Level 2 and, after a lot of hard work by students and assessors, they all successfully completed the award in late October. EDI, the Awarding Body, were keen to celebrate this achievement so an informal Award Ceremony took place at The Alnwick Garden on 2nd November.

The photograph above shows all four candidates alongside their assessors Lynn Silmon & Karen Wilkinson, EDI’s Trevor Meakin and Stephen Kerry and Duty Manager Chris Tincombe.
Best news of all is that all four students have now been offered full-time contracts by The Alnwick Garden and The Tourism Academy are now looking in to NVQ Level 3 for them all.
